Due to the fact that Kei's arm continues to bother him a little bit, we decided to make
a visit last week to Dr. Altchek in New York City. Dr. Altchek is considered by
many to be the best arm and shoulder specialist in the world and has worked
with some of the biggest athletes (tennis and non-tennis) in the world.
Together with Dr. Altchek, the staff from Bollettieri Sports Medicine and myself,
Kei has decide to rehab his arm the next 6 weeks. This means no tennis
and just working on rehabilitation to get rid of the pain symptoms completely.
For Kei to be able to compete and improve, he has to be pain free.
His arm had been bothering him since Brisbane and although it was not getting worse,
it was not getting better. We have seen 3 doctors (including Dr. Altchek)
and all have said this is not a serious injury but we have to monitor it closely.
Kei has a very long career ahead of him and we therefore we are not going to
take any risks. The main goal is to get ready for the French Open and I will
keep everyone posted as to what (if any) tournaments Kei will play in weeks
eading up to Paris.
